From the current issue on the accomplished science journal "Eiszeitalter und Gegenwart" of the German Quaternary Association is being published under the name "E&G-Quaternary Science Journal" as an Open-Access-Publication. At the same time all of the previously published issues are offered at no charge as a complete text under www.quaternary-science.net. The new website provides an extensive and constantly growing archive of reviewed research on the field of Quaternary science with the emphasis on middle Europe.
The website was technically realized by Geozon Science Media, a spin-off-project of the University of Greifswald. Geozon also developed the new Open-Access-Publication-System PUBLISS which was used for the first time to build the Journal-Archive. This web based application offers a variety of opportunities and functions for readers and for authors.
Following the research the opportunities arise to either look or search through complete issues or single articles comfortably through a viewer on your browser without changing to another program. Also the free of charge download of the particular PDF-file is possible, just as the inclusion of the publication on the own website by widgets. Furthermore it is easily possible to add additional material, like maps, photos, or videos, as well as comments. Further functions allow a fast transfer into literature-administration-systems and social media services. Readers can subscribe their individual search options as RSS-feed and can stay updated on new releases.
Especially for authors the new website includes an online submission system for the appliance of new articles. Therefore the editorship can in the future assure a fast execution of the appraisal.
No author fee is being charged - not even for the usage of colour illustrations. After the acceptance the article is immediately being published online and instantly quotable through a definite
DOI-Number. The rights stay with the author. Alongside the digital version a printed issue will be still available.
The German Quaternary-Association ensures new impulses from the new publication-system to boost the quaternary science research. These win more and more relevance, especially through their contribution to the research of climate change.
